I'm learning what it means to live in Texas.

Mornings and evenings are peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful

 

There are critters I've never seen before, including those that will visit you in the house whenever they want!

 

Everything is big including flowers....

  food...

  and freeways.

Although we can go to the beach anytime we want.

 We will still enjoy some fall colors as we've always done up north!

So as one of our friends has said..." We weren't born here, but we got here as fast as we could!"

 

 

Signs of Spring

Signs of spring are popping up everywhere!

• My hibuscus is blooming it's little heart out
• The farmer across the lane is out discing his field
• The Asian Beetles have overtaken the house
• I have capri's on today
• There are little bud coats on the trees
• Southerly winds are blowing
• The grass is greening up
• We've finalized our plans for our annual trip to Marco
• I have crocuses and tulips in the yard
• The kitchen and storm door windows are popped open!

I love this time of the year! The snows are gone, the birds are singing, flowers are blooming, fresh air and warm sun fill the house!

Just a few random thoughts

It’s been a while since I’ve actually blogged much of anything so I guess maybe that says a lot for what is going on in my life!  Not much of anything earth shattering or exciting.  So, I thought I’d just throw out some random thoughts and things that have been going on. 1.    I’m waiting patiently for spring, although after sitting in the house yesterday after a snow storm on Friday night and winds so strong they destroyed a wind turbine here in Eastern Iowa and then walking around Cedar Rapids in the cold I can honestly say that my patience is becoming very short.  I’m ready to see the daffodils popping their sweet, little heads out of the ground, the green grass and the beautiful white flower buds on our apple and pear trees!  Spring can’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned. 2.    It seems as if we have these weekend storms that like to come in on Friday night into Saturday.  So to alleviate the cabin fever that it doesn’t take long to hit we’ve been watching a lot of movies such as, Eagle Eye, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Tropic Thunder,  & The Dark Knight.  All great movies, some of which are up for some kind of Oscar tonight, but one that really touched our hearts was one called God Grew Tired Of Us, a very moving movie about the Lost Boys of Sudan.  If anyone has a chance I most certainly would recommend watching it. 3.    I’m in the midst of a project that has been bringing back so many wonderful memories of our kids as they were growing up.  Jon & I decided that we needed to get all of our pictures of the kids that aren’t in photo albums or picture frames onto a CD.  So th scanning project began.  1876 pictures later I’m almost done.  Next is to finish organizing and then get them burned onto a CD.  It’s taken me a bit longer because I kept wanting to send pictures to the kids.  Brett finally told me he wanted to be surprised when I was finished.  If anyone is interested in seeing any previews you can check them out on my facebook photo albums. 4.    A couple of weeks ago we went to the Chris Tomlin “Hello Love” Concert with Israel Houghton.  It was an awesome night of song and worship!  What a boost to a long winter! 5.    As I’m sitting here writing this I’m watching The Barbara Walters Special and waiting for the Oscar’s show to come on.  It will be an interesting night.  Will Heath Ledger win?  He most certainly deserves it for an awesome performance.  So tune into ABC tonight for what will be an interesting night.  If nothing else it will be worth it to watch Hugh Jackman as the new host. So those are just a few little highlights and the random thoughts that are floating through my brain right now.  Maybe I’ll soon have an epiphany and the old brain cells will be a little more earth shattering! Somewhat painful, but funny!

I've been watching the TV series "The Office".  I started out watching the BBC series so I could get an idea what was behind the American version. I remember watching the 1st episode of the 1st season with Justin and so I was curious to see the rest of the episodes.  And being a huge fan of Steve Carrell I really wanted to see the American made version and to see where it went from there.   I have to say that it has been an interesting run so far.  First of all, if you've ever worked in an environment portrayed on this series, which I have, you may find it somewhat painful to watch, which I did.  There were times that I had these horrible flashbacks to events that occurred in my workplace, which shall remain anonymous!  But, I do have to admit that as much as it was painful to watch these poor folks trying to get through a work day, I also had to laugh at the side conversations and rolling of the eyes that took place between them, of which I too have been part of.   A couple of interesting facts that I have discovered since watching the series.    

• Ricky Gervais and the rest of the cast from the BBC series were unknowns in the world of Brit TV.  This was intentional on the part of the writers, etc. so that folks could possibly identify with just everyday people and not well known celebs.  
• Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant are the executive producers of the American version.  
• Some of the episodes in the American version have been written by B.J. Novak, who plays the temp.  
• I'm thinking that we Americans do have a warped sense of humor and maybe even drier than the Brits- the British version lasted 2 seasons, the American version is on it's 5th season.

  If you have a chance to rent the BBC series, make sure to watch the special edition, which takes place 3 years after the "documentary" was first filmed.  It comes to a very interesting close, actually gives some hope to their lives, and sheds some interesting facts about the show.   So, for those of you that have either worked in an environment like "The Office" or are in one now you may find it somewhat painful, but funny and know that you aren't the only one in that situation!  After all where in the world would they have gotten the idea for this series!!! Right now I'm on Season 2, Episode #208- "E-mail Surveillance".  We'll see how it unfolds and if I actually can continue to endure the flashbacks!

This just isn’t right! What in the world are we coming to?? Weird! Read and be absolutely disgusted!

Random thoughts!

Just some random thoughts going through my head- of course they enter when I’m lying in bed at night trying to go to sleep!

1. O.K. I’m hooked! I’ve become a computer geek. I’m hopelessly hooked on facebook, twitter, & my blog. But, not only those- I’ve got church’s facebook, twitter, websites, and blogs that I’m keeping track of. I have to use two different browsers to be able to keep myself straight when I’m working on stuff. Last night I was bound and determined to figure something out on one of the websites- all of a sudden it was midnight.
2. I’m also hooked on these stupid games. Zuma - I’m bound and determined to beat the gauntlet game. I can only get myself up to Sun-3 and then I start loosing my frogs, even though I’ve got maybe 6 of them when I hit that level. But, that’s not all- now there’s word twist, bubble words and scrabble on facebook. Not to mention L’l green patch and all those other applications that are there.

1. Two newspaper articles that have caught my eye. One was about the guy that shot his lawnmower because it wouldn’t start! Guess they tried to charge him with something and his reply was “It’s my lawnmower and my yard. If I was to shoot it I will” Here’s the article on CNN. The second article was about some psycho that stabbed and beheaded the passenger sitting next to him on a Greyhound bus. Where were all the other people on the bus?? Why didn’t someone stop him. It’s not easy to behead someone! Whoa- left me speechless!
