Yesterday was Jon's birthday and so it was his choice as the tour guide for the day. Of course what was first on his list? The Guinness Storehouse! Seeing as how it was Sunday we also thought it was befitting that we at least attend church. So we decided it was time for TOT Dublin style. Church #1 was St. Patrick's. Mass had just ended, which would have allowed us to enter the sanctuary without paying. We really weren't that intent on having to see the sanctuary so we walked into the vestibule and back out. Hey- can't say we didn't try! Church #2- Carmelite Church in Whitefriar St. where St. Valentine is buried. We were in luck. No admission fee, mass was in session and we were able to enter the building. We stood in the narthex outside the glass doors and listened to the priest celebrate communion, read the bulletin and visited the loo! Ha- went to church-well kinda. Our next church on the tour was Christ Church Cathedral, which we had seen before and really didn't need to tour again. Besides, this time you even have to pay to enter the church. So again we did walk into the vestibule and then back out again- church #3 complete. But, the most interesting was Church #4 St. Audoen's, the only midevil church left in Dublin. Admission was free, services were over with and so we decided to check it out. Besides, I think this was the church that Justin was telling us we had to see. Dublin's best kept secret and one that most people don't even know is there. The lady at the reception said that even most Dubliner's don't realize it is there. Our church attendance complete it was time for the tap portion of TOT!!! We headed to the Guinness Storehouse, toured there and hit the gravity bar for our complimentary pour of the dark stuff. It truly is good for you! Next was Jameson Distillery. We didn't tour, only looked because it was now getting close to the eating part of TOT!! We headed back to Temple Bar to a spot that we saw the night before on our quick tour of the Bar area- Mongolian BBQ. Yeah- go figure we're in Ireland and we eat Mongolian BBQ. It was absolutely delicious! TOT complete Dublin style.
Ok- Jon is waiting on me- we are headed into Dublin to see what is open. It's a bank holiday here so we're not sure what we will find. I think we need to have these holiday's in the states too!
